"Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other." —John F. Kennedy
As CFO of an 8-person team of the Model United Nations of Vienna (MUNoV) 2025, we built the biggest MUN conference in Austria. The event generated Euro 40,000 in revenue. Part of this (Euro 4,000) has already been donated to PROSA (Projekt Schule für Alle), a charity working to provide formal education to asylum seekers, and more funds are on the way.
It was an extraordinary experience. We established lifelong relationships, debated issues passionately, and discussed how we could make the world a more peaceful, equitable place. I was honored to chair the Historical Security Council Session.
It was humbling to address the 500+ participants who filled the General Assembly hall to its maximum capacity, in the opening ceremony. In my speech I laid out the guiding framework for discussions, emphasizing the need for dialogue to reach collaborative global solutions.
Responsibility, ethics and courage - these have been the motif of my year serving on my school's elected Student Council. Serving as the voice of your community and negotiating their demands with school administration, from shower curtains to on-campus phone usage, it was a learning experience like no other.
Seeing how things work on the inside, I co-founded a system of accountability and transparency by launching the Student Government Reform Council (SGRC) to ensure regular feedback from the student body across grades, and oversight over the workings of their elected officials.
We didn't stop there. After creating meaningful change at our school, we spoke with friends in schools in other countries and realized that these same issues tended to emerge across different schools, just because of the paradigm of student governments and elections. We're currently working on helping a chain of schools in the Czech Republic, to set up their own student government oversight mechanisms, leveraging our acquired knowledge to improve student welfare outcomes and expand the impact of our work.
